Summary

HITAP are working with partners to support the Kenyan Ministry of Health to institutionalize health priority setting at the national level of the health system. A relationship between the Kenyan Mininstry of Health and the Thai Ministry of Public Health has been formalised through a memorandum of understanding  (MoU). The collaboration focuses on helping Kenya achieving UHC in three areas — insurance and financing, human resources and benefit package design and health technology assessment. The focus of HITAPs technical assistance is centred around the latter and the objectives are fourfold to:

i. build the institutional capacity in the Kenyan health system on healthcare priority setting

ii. develop analytical and process infrastructure to support an evidence based and institutionalized healthcare priority setting process in the Kenyan health system

iii. establish framework for institutionalizing HTA in the Kenyan health sector

iiii. pilot a health technology assessment on a current priority setting decision
